The worst outbreak of H3N2 has been reported in China and Hong Kong.
There are reports of infections in some of the countries worst affected countries, including Vietnam and Cambodia.
H1N3 was first reported in Vietnam and China last year, and has been spreading rapidly across Asia, particularly in the southern parts of the continent.
In Malaysia, there are reports that more than 100 cases have been recorded, including four in the capital Kuala Lumpur.
“The pandemic has been so devastating that the government has announced an immediate lockdown in the city of Penang.
The government will also close down all public transport in the area,” said the local news website, Malay News Today.
The virus has killed at least 1,300 people in Malaysia since January, and some 3,000 more have been confirmed infected.
More than 1,100 people have died in Vietnam, and more than 10,000 people have been infected.
